After 24 hours of flying and running through the tent city that once was the Santiago airport, Karen and I landed in Balmaceda, Chile. We arrived at the Patagonia House to be greeted by nine jumping dogs, our friend Jen and our new host/”boss” Ruthie.

We are now staying at The Patagonia House, a jaw-dropping architectural gem that sits proudly on a hill above the town. We have already started work for Salvaje Corazon (Wild Heart), the umbrella organization that does everything from adventure photo tours to helping control the wild dog population…
We have been delightfully astounded by the incredible attention to detail, modern design, and true inspiration here at Ruthie’s place.

The caliber of Ruthie’s place is complimented by the town and people here. We are just beginning to explore and can tell that the local pride and commitment to the health and vitality of the land is palpable.
The inspiration here is as big as the vista to the glacier-capped mountains. We’re talking about creating not just a four-season greenhouse, but also bolstering an entire cultural revolution for sustainability in an effort to protect this wild land from energy-producing colonization.
Amidst all this, rainbows. Yes, rainbows, at least twice a day.
